Aim and objectives
The project aims to boost local economic growth in border regions through raising of the awareness and development of proposals for local, regional and national policy makers on the improvement of the instruments of local communities' economic development in Poland-Ukraine, Hungary-Ukraine, Romania-Ukraine and Romania-Moldova cross-border regions.

Past Activities
Local economic development of border regions: capacity, problems, perspectives
Sociological survey will cover the representatives of local communities of 5 Ukrainian regions that border the EU countries.
The main objectives of the research are: to evaluate the capacity of their economic development, to determine major development problems that can be solved by combining joint efforts of neighbouring territories on both sides of the border and to define their understanding of perspective directions of their territories' development.

Newsletter “Instruments of Local Communities’ economic development: best European practices in the sphere of cross-border cooperation”. Series 1. Euroregions, ECGs, EGTCs, etc.
The published Newsletter provides information on such effective forms of cross-border cooperation as Euroregions, European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTCs), and Euroregional cooperation groupings (ECGs) regarding the following: distinctive features of these forms of cross-border cooperation and the difference between them; the legal background of their functioning; the ways their budgets are formed; best practices in boosting socio-economic development of border areas; the stages of their establishment; the perspectives of their implementation in Ukraine. The use of positive experience in the operation of these forms of cross-border cooperation will contribute to the socio-economic development of border areas.

Monograph “Cross-border cooperation of Ukraine with the EU countries: current challenges and possibilities”
Monograph is devoted to the research of modern theoretical, methodological and practical foundations of the development of cross-border cooperation in the EU-Ukraine cross-border space. The development tendencies of cross-border regions with Ukrainian participation are analyzed; the mechanisms of interaction of economic entities in cross-border space are identified. The monograph outlines the results of experts survey of local authorities’ representatives on the issues of cross-border cooperation development and socio-economic development of border oblasts in conditions of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. Major factors and tendencies of shadow economy development in border regions adjoining the EU Member States are analyzed. The directions of activation of cross-border cooperation are suggested.

Roundtable debate “Cross-border Cooperation in EU Member States: Theoretical Studies and Best Practices” (Oradea, Romania)
The aim of the roundtable debate was to capitalize, communicate and multiply knowledge on EU experience of cross-border cooperation instruments development and their influence on social and economic growth of border local communities.
The event brought together more than fifty experts in the field of cross-border cooperation from five European countries (Ukraine, Romania, Poland, Hungary, and Moldova), who held debates in four thematic areas: European theoretical studies in the field of cross-border cooperation; methodologies for assessing cross-border cooperation; current challenges in the development of cross-border cooperation between EU member states; issues of developing cross-border cooperation at the EU's external borders.

Newsletter “Instruments of Local Communities’ economic development: best European practices in the sphere of cross-border cooperation”. Series 2. Cross-border clusters
The published Newsletter addresses the issues of forming and development of cross-border clusters as one of efficient forms of cross-border cooperation. In particular, it provides general characteristics and stages of clusters establishment, their classification, and outlines main instruments of EU clusters development policy, legislative framework of their development in Ukraine, best practices of cross-border clusters in the EU, cluster initiatives in Ukrainian regions bordering the EU, etc. The use of positive experience of functioning of this cross-border cooperation form boosts entrepreneurship development in border regions and promotes their socio-economic growth.

Newsletter “Instruments of local communities’ economic development: best European practices in the sphere of CBC”. Series 3. Cross-border industrial zones and parks
The published Newsletter provides information on such forms of cross-border cooperation as cross-border industrial zones and parks. In particular, it reveals the concepts, characteristics and main types of industrial parks; legislative framework of their functioning; main features of their development in Ukraine and world experience of development of both industrial and cross-border parks. The use of positive experience of functioning of these forms of cross-border cooperation will serve as an additional stimulus for the socio-economic development of border areas.

Roundtable debate “Peculiarities of Local Economic Development in Cross-Border Space Ukraine-Moldova-Romania” (Chisinau, Moldova)

The aim of the roundtable debate was to discuss and exchange views on issues regarding evaluation of local economic development capacity and existing problems of local communities development in cross-border space Ukraine-Moldova-Romania as well as the efficiency of cross-border cooperation instruments in boosting local economic growth in border regions, and perspectives of local economic development in the process of EU integration.
The event brought together experts in the fields of international relations, international economic relations, political science, economics, local government, international law from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, and Poland.

International Conference “Promotion of EU Knowledge in Boosting Local Economic Growth in the Process of EU Integration: Best Practices of Eastern Partnership (EaP) Countries” (Lviv, Ukraine)
The aim of the conference was to discuss and exchange views on issues regarding local economic growth in today’s challenges, and entrepreneurship development during COVID-19 crisis as well as to capitalize, communicate and multiply knowledge on EU experience of cross-border cooperation instruments development and their influence on social and economic growth of border local communities. The issues were discussed by theoreticians and practitioners among others from Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Estonia.

The recommendations are based on the panel discussion “Cross-border cooperation: essence, nature, and legal regulation in Ukraine” of the international scientific-practical conference “Promotion of EU Knowledge in Boosting Local Economic Growth in the Process of EU Integration: Best Practices of Eastern Partnership (EaP) Countries” and relate to the need to improve the Draft Law “On Cross-Border Cooperation”, taking into account the comments and suggestions.

The recommendations are based on the panel discussion “Problems of traffic management at the state border of Ukraine” of the international scientific-practical conference “Promotion of EU Knowledge in Boosting Local Economic Growth in the Process of EU Integration: Best Practices of Eastern Partnership (EaP) Countries” and relate to ensuring the competitiveness and efficiency of the national and regional economies, consistent integration into the global transport network, realization of the country's transit potential and improving the quality of passenger and freight services.

The international scientific and practical seminar “Cross-border cooperation – the challenge of crises: the search for greater efficiency and effectiveness”, (Chernivtsi, Ukraine)
The aims of the scientific and practical seminar were to boost experience exchange in the issues related to cross-border cooperation research in conditions of current challenges and discuss the opportunities and perspectives of increasing its efficiency and effectiveness. The ways the cross-border cooperation tools can be used in practice by bordering territorial communities, newly created districts and oblasts of Ukraine, and their foreign partners also was addressed. The researchers and experts from Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Poland, Slovakia, and other countries were invited to participate in the event.

The Monograph “Promoting the European integration processes in the Eastern Partnership countries: national and regional policy instruments”
The monograph addresses a set of existing problems and current challenges faced in the process of the Eastern Partnership policy implementation both on national (the countries) and regional levels. It offers a range of mechanisms and instruments of achieving the policy objectives and targets for the post-2020 Eastern Partnership agenda developed on the basis of the Joint Communication “Eastern Partnership policy beyond 2020: Reinforcing resilience – an Eastern partnership that delivers for all” and the Joint Staff Working Document “Recovery, resilience and reform: post 2020 Eastern Partnership priorities”. Special attention is focused on the issues related to cross-border cooperation, sectoral cooperation, and integrated border management.
