History of department
Department of development of industrial sphere of the region and investment (up to 2013 – Department of monitoring of regional development) conducts theoretical and applied research in a wide range of economic problems at meso and micro levels associated with the development of key economic activities in the region and their investment supply.
During the period of 1996-2006 the department was headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor Poburko Y. O. and dealt with the problems of economic statistical analysis of socio-economic development of regions. Research were carried out in close collaboration with the regional Offices of Statistics.
Since 2007, the department is headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor Ishchuk S. O. During this period the department accomplished a number of sectoral scientific research themes, including: "Monitoring of development of industrial and agro-industrial territorial systems in the Western region of Ukraine", "Monitoring and evaluation of investment attractiveness of regions of the Western Ukraine", "Evaluation of investment activities in the region and determining of levers for increasing of its efficiency", "Fields of modernization of fixed capital of the region" and the section of the All-Ukrainian complex theme "Assessing of technical and economic condition of infrastructure's entities and productive assets (by regions of Ukraine)."

As the results of research work were developed a package of methodical and scientific practical recommendations, published 5 monographs, prepared 7 scientific reports and 29 scientific analytical notes and other materials which are implemented at the level of central and regional governance. The main achievements of the the department include the collective monograph "Investment attractiveness of the Western region of Ukraine" (2011), "The Carpathian region: problems and prospects. Vol. 7. Investment Activity" (2013), scientific analytical reports "Evaluation of investment activities in the regions of Western Ukraine" (2011), "Investment activities in Lviv region: dynamics, trends, and effectiveness" (2012), "The fixed capital of the Western region of Ukraine: current condition and promising trends of modernization" (2013).
