International Conference ”Prospects of Building the Infrastructure Capacity on the Freight Corridors in EU-Ukraine Border Area” (November 13-14, 2023, Dąbrowa Górnicza, Poland)
On November 13-14, 2023, the international conference “Prospects of building the infrastructure capacity on the freight corridors in EU-Ukraine border area” took place in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Poland. The event was organized within the framework of the project “Increasing the capacity of freight transportation infrastructure on EU-Ukraine borders” (No. 22220189), coordinated by the Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (hereinafter the Institute), with the support of the International Visegrad Fund. The Institute co-organized the event in collaboration with WSB University (Poland), the Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Slovakia), the University of Debrecen (Hungary), and the University of Oradea (Romania).
The international conference took place in a hybrid format (offline and online) and brought together representatives from the academic community and practitioners in the field of freight transport from 13 countries. The main purpose of the event was to discuss and exchange ideas regarding the development of infrastructure for freight corridors along the Ukraine-EU border. Special attention was given to the development of logistic routes for cargo transportation, increasing the capacity of border infrastructure, promoting multimodal transportation in Ukraine and neighboring EU countries, as well as the implementation of green technologies and innovations in freight transport and multimodal terminals.
The event began with the signing of the Cooperation Agreements between the Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and WSB University (Poland) and Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Slovakia). Subsequently, congratulatory messages were delivered by Director of the Research Institute on Territorial and Inter-Organizational Cooperation, WSB University, Poland, Prof., Dr. Joanna Kurowska-Pysz; Deputy Director for Research of the Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukraine, Prof. Dr Iryna Storonyanska; and Project Coordinator, Head of the Cross-Border Cooperation Sector, Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukraine, Assoc. Prof. Dr Khrystyna Prytula.
Representatives of the Institute gave the following presentations:
- Assoc. Prof., Dr.Sci. Khrystyna Prytula – “Development of border infrastructure in the Ukraine-EU cross-border space: a systematic approach”;
- Prof., Dr.Sci. Maryana Melnyk, Dr Iryna Leshchuh – “Logistical potential for ensuring the resilience of the economic system of Ukraine in the face of global challenges”
- Dr Mariana Vykliuk – “Investing in EU transport and logistics infrastructure: experience for Ukraine”
- Dr. Yaroslava Kalat – “National legislation of Ukraine in the field of cross-border cooperation: harmonization with EU law””.
In addition, Assoc. Prof., Dr.Sci. Khrystyna Prytula moderated Plenary Session 3..
Participants of the international conference discussed various aspects of the development of freight corridor infrastructure at the border between Ukraine and the EU. During the discussion, prospects and opportunities for further development of cross-border cooperation were also considered. The concluding part of the event involved the identification by project partners of further directions for joint research and the highlighting of prospects for implementing a future collaborative project.
